说白了的飞行汽车，就是指即能半空中飞行，也可以在陆上行驶，能从一辆汽车道路小车变作为一架飞机。
近些年，科技及互联网大佬、车企巨头纷纷布局空中出行这一高端领域。如谷歌创始人拉里佩奇投资Kitty Hawk、腾讯投资Lilium， 奥迪与空客合作成立了Pop.Up Next，丰田投资了Cartivator，Uber也专门成立一个事业部来推进飞行汽车项目。
2017年9月，由腾讯领投的德国飞行出租车初创公司Lilium宣布完成价值9000万美元的B轮融资。今年5月，Lilium对外展示了五座版飞行出租车，并完成首飞。
Lilium将自家的全电动垂直起降设备命名为Lilium Jet，据Lilium介绍，Lilium Jet由36个全电动喷气式发动机提供动力，最高时速可达300公里，而续航里程也可达300公里。
一样是2017年，丰田汽车也项目投资了一间飞行汽车企业Cartivator，但是那时候的项目投资额度只能4000万日元（245万RMB）。Cartivator创立于2012年，企业致力于打造出一个单座、轻巧、不用独特操作的飞行汽车，据悉该飞车原计划要为东京奥运会点火。
